Not mentioned: the pen used for the handwriting sequences is the Papermate Flair, a common choice for "on-screen writing" in the standard definition era because of its heavy and clean line. The design is still sold today.

We used to watch this in primary school (in mid-Wales c. 1995/96) as part of the school curriculum, I remember nostalgically searching for it on YouTube not so long back and noticed Samuel L. Jackson was a part of it.
